What is a BTU (British Thermal Unit)?
As a traditional unit of energy, the British thermal unit (BTU or Btu) is approximately the amount of energy needed to heat one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit. One BTU is equal to about 1.06 kilojoules.
Fueling the power, steam generation, heating and air conditioning industries, BTU is used to describe the heat value (energy content) of fuels. It is also used to describe the power of heating and cooling systems, such as furnaces, stoves, barbecue grills, and air conditioners.
The amount of BTU output will help determine the amount of heat that will be delivered into a room. The higher the BTU, the more square footage can be heated.
